DIY Envelope-Style Throw Pillow Cover | HowFantasticBlog.com

When I first got my sewing machine I was overwhelmed with excitement which quickly turned into fear. What on earth is a bobbin and how do I wind it? I kept telling myself that I’d eventually figure it all out. Some four months later, it was still sitting on the dining room table collecting dust. Finally one of my best friends (who is an amazing teacher) gave me the kick in the but I needed and, with a little hand-holding, I completed my first sewing project, an envelope-style pillow cover. Honestly the hardest part  (as with most DIY projects I’ve encountered) was the measuring.

Fortunately I’ve taken the hard work off your hands *lucky you*. Simply add or subtract inches from my 16″ x 16″ pattern based on the size of your pillow.

For instance if you are sewing for an 18″ x 18″ pillow your front piece should be 19.5″x19.5″, 2 inches longer and wider than what I used. Additionally your Top Rear piece should be 19.5″ x 13″ and your Bottom Rear should be 19.5″ x16.5″.

Throw pillow covers are a great way to switch things up without over-stuffing your closets. So let’s save some space together and have some fun creating. Or if nothing else just snicker at my overuse of “bottom rear” in this video. Cool? Cool!
